Biopsy(Round 2) Results

The following weekend brought more waiting and by midday Monday I was getting antsy so around 3 o’clock I called Dr. Qalbani to see if he had the pathology results also knowing that once those results we’re available I would finally be able to set up an appointment with my surgical team. Dr. Q called me right back as he had been with a patient when I called back took a lot of time to explain to me basically they found the same thing as the first biopsy “just” looked like DCIS from both vacuum assisted biopsies they had done… of course the fact that they did not find invasive disease was somewhat of a relief although I think I’m waiting to fully exhale until after surgery as well well documented that sometimes biopsies don’t catch the area of invasiveness which is understandable when you consider that the biopsy is such a small sampling of the malignant (cancerous) area especially in multifocal, multicentric cases, large “tumors” like mine…

Finally , I got the “go ahead” to make my appointment with the surgeon…Of course this was at the end of the day but the next day I got a call from Steph, the sweetheart Nurse from Dr. Dirksen’s office, I was so happy to learn that they could see me on Friday the 16th first thing in the morning I tearfully thanked her when she told me my appointment time …& I told her “I’m sorry ..,I’m just so emotional because this has been such a long process and I’m just so relieved to have an appointment to get this show on the road already!”

Isn’t it crazy how just knowing when you’re going to be able to take the next step can give you such a sense of peace? I literally felt like I could finally breathe for the first time in weeks.
