As I was packing and getting ready for our trip to Daytona, The nurse From my doctors office called me and Left a message to call her back that’s weird I thought usually if it’s nothing serious I’ll just leave the results as a voicemail Sometimes before you even get the letter in the mail saying everything was fine which is what I was fully expecting in that little state of denial I was living in… I called her right back and when she got to the phone she said“Hi Cari.., I’m calling about your mammogram results…ummm have you received them yet?”And no, I told her, I had not…She proceeded to read the radiologist comments “ There is an area of focal asymmetry in the left breast, with multiple associated calcifications noted” …Huh? She then proceeded to tell me that I would need to come back for a diagnostic mammogram and diagnostic ultrasound. I did not have time to even really process this because we were leaving for Daytona the next day. I told her I would make an appointment but then ended up calling later that day to ask her for a referral to Mercy Breast Care in Sioux City…I have been there a few years before because I had a strange sore develop on my breast and wasn’t sure what was going on that ended up being nothing but I really liked Dr. Qalbani, And the only breast radiologist in the Sioux City area, I remember he had an excellent bedside manner and was just compassionate and put my mind at ease during that last situation. So she proceeded with that referral. And the next day we headed down to Daytona…
